HistoryCirc Perillós

Trapeze and humour
In 1980, Jordi and Adelaida meet on the trapeze. They put together their first duo at Circ Cric, working as much on technical rigour as on the humour of the characters.

Aerial comic theatre
In 1981 they found the company Circ Perillós and start experimenting with the fusion of circus and theatre. After early pieces parodying the traditional variety number, they build shows in which acrobatic technique feeds adventures drawn from comic-strip panels, with increasingly complex scripts: CirConstance (1984), Ulaanbatur! (1986) and Volàtil (1988).

Acrobatic theatre
In a second period, Perillós takes to the streets, starting from everyday stories and pushing them to extremes. In the shows Is that bird a caravan? (1991) and Up on the balcony (1994), they use their acrobatic background to play with humour and suspense, exposing human excess and pressing the audience to take sides.

Literary circus
The need for change leads Jordi and Adelaida to dissolve Perillós, and they work as a team (he directing, she writing) on two co-productions between Circ Crac and the Mercat de les Flors. In Mirages, Lies and Mysteries (1997) they bring in text as a poetic element, to give the image its contradictions. In The Night of the Thousand Moons (1998) they weave dreamlike images through fast-moving dialogue.

Visual storytelling
Using circus technique as a tool for carrying ideas remains the central search. The Earth is Blue like an Orange (2000), written and directed by Adelaida, with Jordi on music and set design, is about immigration. Circus and theatre come together with shadows and projections to set concepts against each other.

Multimedia stories
Alongside their work with other companies, Adelaida writes the script and Jordi the music for their own production The Hundredth Monkey (2006), where the characters step in and out of the screen in a humorous portrait of the soul under the effects of advertising, with video art and live music.

Storytelling for voice and sax
From 2000 to 2012, Jordi and Adelaida tour two repertoires of storytelling — Fearless Women and Everyday Heroines — written by her and with music by him, performed as a duo for voice and sax under the name Delícies.
